Ruth Ann Nyhus, Ph.D.

Chair & Professor Department of Human Performace & Sport

Dr. Ruth Ann Nyhus serves as chair of the Human Performance & Sport Department, which includes four areas of study: Athletic Training, Adult Fitness and Exercise Science, K-12 Physical Education, and Sport Industry Operation. Ruth is determined to create a department that provides MSU Denver students with the best education and helps them attain that excellence every step of the way. She works closely with student teachers while they are working in their 16-week internship in one of the four programs. She also helps sponsor the yearly Denver Public School Physical Education Institute at MSU Denver.

Known among her students as “organized,” “approachable” and “a task master,” Ruth Ann works hard to get things done and is willing to take on new challenges.

Ruth Ann combines her academic interests in physical education with her personal interests. She is an aficionado of downhill skiing and hiking. Ruth can direct you to her favorite Front Range hikes in Chautauqua Park in Boulder or Fox Run Regional Park in Colorado Springs. Or guide to you the different Colorado ski slopes – all within a few hours drive (pending traffic!).

Ruth Ann can suggest a plethora of holiday family outings from the Parade of Lights in downtown Denver to the Zoo Lights every December. Summer time boasts a myriad of art festivals throughout the Denver metro area. Two favorites: the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and Boulder ‘s Open Arts Fest.

Denver is probably one of the best places I’ve lived. We are close to the mountains, people are friendly and there is so much going on. Everything from film and art festivals to the Turkey Trot Run on Thanksgiving. You can participate in something every week if you want.
