Peter M. Vigil, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor Department of Teacher Education

A native of Denver and an alumnus of MSU Denver, Dr. Peter Vigil’s familiarity with the city runs deep. His Latino roots nurture a strong connection to the diverse student population at MSU Denver.

A first generation college graduate, Peter acknowledges that an important influence for him as a student were the Latino professors in academia. They served as important role models. As a faculty member at MSU Denver, Peter hopes to emulate the professors he respected and admired as a student.

Peter now dedicates himself to helping culturally and linguistically diverse populations through his teaching and work with students. Within the education department, Peter’s focus is in elementary education and training teachers to work with linguistically diverse students in public education. He is wrapping up a five-year Title III grant that has helped paraprofessionals in Denver Public Schools acquire their B.A., elementary teaching license, and linguistically diverse education endorsement.

Peter has the local knowledge of the various neighborhoods that flank the MSU Denver campus, and beyond. He can guide you on where to eat, what hidden gems to visit (and probably where to park) in the Highlands, LoDo, Baker, Washington Park, and Capital Hill neighborhoods. He can share with you his favorite jazz clubs and point you to the Clifford Still Museum, a not too distance walk from the campus.

I have a lot of history in the community, a lot of strong connections. In Denver, we have the perfect mix of community within a dynamic urban setting. As an MSU Denver alum, I see myself in a lot of the students here, and that inspires me to work for them and help them be successful.
