Completing the MSU Denver transition: email timeline extended; final system configuration changes

As MSU Denver prepares for the final changes to technology systems to complete the year-long name-change process, the University has extended the timeline for modifications to email.

Having received approval from Educause for the extension, the final email changes will be completed Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.

On July 26, all MSU Denver computers will begin using the new server configuration settings. Faculty and staff who use personal devices—computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, or iPads—may need to update their email client settings if they have not already. These changes can be made at any time; detailed instructions are available on the Got U website.

Also starting July 26, a reminder message will be inserted into the subject and body of all emails sent to @mscd.edu recipients letting them know that this email was sent to their old address and that the recipient should inform the sender that their new address is @msudenver.edu. This automated process will provide a proactive mechanism for all faculty and staff to notify their colleagues, particularly those external to the University, to update their address book with the new address.

There are few remaining things faculty and staff may need to do, including:

  • Update address book entries to use the @msudenver.edu email address.
  • Clear the “autofill” in Webmail (Outlook Web access) of all mscd.edu addresses either through ConnectU or directly at mail.msudenver.edu.

Detailed instructions for completing each of these tasks is available on the Got U website.

“We understand these changes may create some inconvenience and hope this additional time is helpful for everyone—particularly faculty returning from the summer break,” says Associate Vice President for Technology Services James Lyall.

After Aug. 30, anyone who sends email to @mscd.edu will receive a bounce back informing him or her of the domain change and the email will not be delivered.

Any questions or requests for assistance with configuring devices, updating email addresses or other issues should be directed to the MSU Denver Helpdesk at 303-352-7548 or 1-877-352-7548.
