Dr. Karen J. Thorpe, then-assistant vice president of Student Affairs, initiated the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Breakfast. On Jan. 15, 1992, about 50 campus and community people gathered in the old Student Union (now Plaza) to celebrate Dr. King’s life and legacy. We thank Dr. Thorpe for inspiring one of MSU Denver’s most important events. The Office of Institutional Diversity serves as the official sponsor.
The Peace Breakfast was created to commemorate the philosophy, values, and belief system of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The MLK Peace Breakfast promotes diversity and equality within our campus community and among all mankind.
The key component of the MLK Peace Breakfast is the awards ceremony, which acknowledges and celebrates individuals within the Campus and from the Denver community who keep the spirit and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. alive through their actions and contributions.
