Ronald Stephens has been to Garden of the Gods five times in the month and a half since he moved to Denver. The mountains of Colorado are a far cry from the flat lands of western Michigan—where Stephens taught at Grand Valley State College—and Stephens hopes to embrace them. 2. Ceremony to welcome president and honor award winners

With fall upon us, it's time to ring in the new academic year and recognize accomplishments from last year. The President's Welcoming Ceremony, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, will provide all staff and faculty members the opportunity to hear President Stephen Jordan's vision for Metro State as the preeminent public baccalaureate college in the country and to acknowledge their colleagues who are being recognized with Distinguished Service, Excellence in Teaching and Golden Key awards.

3. Monthly BOT meeting follows President's Welcoming Ceremony


Due to the President's Welcoming Ceremony on Sept. 7, the regular monthly meeting of Metro State's Board of Trustees will begin at 11:30 a.m., rather than its normal 8 a.m. start time. The meeting, which is expected to run until 3 p.m., will be held in TIV 320. Watch for the agenda to be posted at

4. Re-accreditation self-study work hitting high gear

The steering committee for Metro's State's self-study for re-accreditation has met weekly since the spring and has made considerable progress.

5. Banner upgrade on its way

Banner, Metro State's administrative system for managing student, financial aid, finance, HR and accounts receivable information, will be upgraded to version 7.1 from version 6.x in October.

6. Campus police address threats and violence

With a new academic year upon us, Auraria's Campus Police Department is asking students, faculty and staff to report all threats or incidents of violent behavior they observe or are informed of. Subsequently, the department has developed a policy to be more responsive to threats and potential acts of violence on campus.

Faculty and staff semester memberships to Campus Recreation at Auraria (CRA) are now only $15—down from $70.
