2. 1,500 to receive degrees Sunday

U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar will deliver the commencement address to the nearly 1,500 students who will receive their diplomas Sunday at Metro State's Spring Commencement.

3. Board vetoes proposal for delay in pay increases, approves tenure


As reported in the May 4 @Metro Special Edition, issues surrounding the change in leadership at Metro State dominated that day's meeting of the Board of Trustees. However, several other important decisions were made, including one that affects all faculty and contract staff.

4. Student's comment among Kieft's unforgettable Metro memories

An avid fly fisherman for 25 years, the biggest fish Ray Kieft has ever hooked was a 34-inch brown trout in Montana's Madison River. After catching it, though, he let it go. "I only practice catch and release," he explained.

6. Do You Know: Charles Batey, Associate Director of Equal Opportunity

Every day Charles Batey, Metro State's new associate director for Equal Opportunity, boards an RTD bus, transfers at the Light Rail station and disembarks near campus. Having lived in Los Angeles, where public transportation is weak, he is delighted to be back in his hometown where he can advocate—through action—for sustainable commuting.

7. Women's Institute names "Outstanding Women"

Last Thursday, the Metro State community gathered at Museo de las Americas to honor this year's honorees for the Institute for Women's Studies and Services 18th Annual Outstanding Women Awards. The awards recognize individuals at Metro State who have supported the advancement of women on campus and beyond. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the Pamela McIntyre-Marcum Memorial Scholarships.

9. Concerts, awards, commemorative items in works for 40th anniversary

Planning for the celebration of Metro State's 40th anniversary during the 2005-06 academic year will proceed over the summer, with the 40th Anniversary Committee continuing its semi-weekly meetings.
