The MSU Denver flight team is an opportunity to expand your aviation knowledge and airmanship skills. Each semester students prepare for a regional or national SAFECON; a competition put on by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA). The flight team and competition are not aerobatic in nature. Instead, both precision flight events and ground events are developed to hone basic airmanship to a higher standard required and desired by the aviation industry.
These competitions act in many ways like a track and field event consisting of both flying and ground events. Flying events include items such as: navigation, message drop, and landing events. Ground events include items such as: flight planning, aircraft identification, flight simulator competitions, and mechanical flight computer written exams. Additionally, students are able to network at competitions and other various local events.
Flight team participation enables students to learn valuable skills and to soar in their academic careers from the initial start while pursuing career goals.
