MSU Denver Calendar Event
Event Name: Denim Day with Kayla Harrison
Date: Wednesday, April 24, 2013
Location: Tivoli Turnhalle
Event Status: Passed
Category: Campus Wide Events
Description: Please join us in wearing your jeans and supporting this cause! Denim Day has been internationally celebrated since 1999 in protest of an Italian High Court ruling that overturned a rape conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans, and therefore must have invited her assailant. Enraged by the verdict, women of the Italian Legislature protested the decision by wearing jeans to work. As news of the decision spread, so did the protest, reaching across the world.

We ask that staff, faculty and students wear denim this day in honor of all the survivors of sexual violence who have experienced blame and silence. Join together so we can collectively say that enough is enough. Sexual violence myths are damaging and serve only to excuse the perpetrator’s behavior.

Join the campus for the following Denim Day events:

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Tivoli Commons: Rally against harmful sexual assault myths and decorate your own piece of denim!

12:30-2 p.m. in Tivoli Turnhalle: Kayla Harrison, 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist for Judo joins us to share her inspiring story of overcoming sexual abuse.
