2 p.m.--"RESTREPO"
A feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, "Restrepo," named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. This is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the valley; there are no interviews with generals or diplomats. The only goal is to make viewers feel as if they have just been through a 90-minute deployment. This is war, full stop. The conclusions are up to you. (http://restrepothemovie.com)Post-film discussion will be facilitated by Cameron Cook,MSU Denver alum and director of veteran student support services at CU Denver.

4 p.m. "Veterans Day 11.11.11."
This documentary is a nationwide “day in the life” exploration of what it means to be a military veteran in the United States. Award winning director John C.P. Goheen reached out to more than 40 of the country’s most accomplished video storytellers, many of them national “Photographer of the Year” award winners, asking them to volunteer their time and talent to produce a series of profiles about the service shared by all veterans and the ultimate sacrifices made by many. Every story in the movie contains elements shot on Veterans Day 2011, 11.11.11. (www.veterans111111.com)A post-film discussion will be facilitated by Suzanne Popovich Chandler, MSU Denver Affiliate Faculty member, whose work is featured in the film.
